You Know You’re a Bookworm If…

I’m a bookworm and proud of it! Are you?

You know you’re a bookworm if:

• You don’t need to look up the word “bookworm” in the dictionary to know what it means.

• You actually have a dictionary, just in case.

• You love the way a book feels, smells and looks as you hold it in your hands.

• You love being transported away – intellectually, emotionally and more – by the power of words on the printed page.

• You consider some of your best friends to be your favorite characters in your favorite books.

• You feel like you know your favorite authors personally, even if you’ve never actual met them.

• You hate having to wait a whole year for the next book in your favorite series.

• You have a pile of unread books next to your favorite chair and/or on your bedside table.

• You begin to get anxious when that pile gets down to the last one.

• You believe multi-tasking means reading and doing something else at the same time (like while eating and/or watching television).

• You cannot eat alone without reading a book.

• You sometimes even read a book while eating with someone else.

• You always keep a book in your purse or knapsack.

• You always keep a book in your car, just in case you get stuck in traffic.

• Your book collection has long since outgrown your bookshelf space, even though you donate books to the library on a regular basis.

• You love receiving books as birthday gifts and Christmas gifts.

• You love giving books as birthday gifts and Christmas gifts.

• You always leave extra space in your suitcase when traveling so you can fill it with books on the return trip home.

• You cannot pass up a library book sale.

• You cannot pass by a bookstore without going inside and browsing.

• You think “kindle” is what you use to start a fire.

The above list is merely suggestive; I’m sure you could come up with your own list of bookworm traits. Feel free to email me your lists and I’ll try to publish more here in a future column.

In the meantime, happy reading! And, Happy Holidays to you and yours!
