Holiday Weight: The Ultimate Weight Loss Talk
Friday, January 8, 7 pm: Learn
How to Jump-Start Your Switched-Off Metabolism! Americans
need a new way to approach weight loss; one that takes into
account genetics, body type and lifestyle — the real
reasons people gain weight. That individualized, personal
approach is a key aspect of THE ULTIMATE
METABOLISM DIET, by Dr. Scott
Rigden.
Dr. Rigden will discuss what he’s discovered in his
years as a weight loss specialist. His experience of running
a weight loss clinic in Arizona has led him to the discovery
that there are five main types of metabolic disorders that
cause people to gain weight:
Metabolic disorder; carbohydrate sensitivity; hormonal imbalances;
impaired liver detoxification; and, food hyper-sensitivities
With these disorders in mind, Dr. Rigden
has developed weight loss plans that help people get their
metabolisms working at their highest efficiency, and he will
share those secrets with us. He will also address chronic
illnesses and emotional eating. Library Journal writes of
THE ULTIMATE METABOLISM DIET:
"Each section of his book contains a screening questionnaire
to help readers determine their particular issues as well
as nutritional and behavioral advice on dealing with each
metabolic type. Case studies illustrate the concept that everyone
has unique metabolism and body type contributions that require
specific diets, supplements, and exercise in order to achieve
one's best state of health. An insightful chapter on addressing
emotional eating and a small appendix of recipes round out
the book. "
Dr. Rigden shares his own issues with weight: "During
my youth I struggled with weight and earned the nickname 'pork
chops' by my peers. I know from personal experience how being
overweight can cause embarrassment and difficulty in life.
I relate to your struggle."
Here are just a small number of his patient testimonials:
“Dr. Rigden understands the special metabolic problems
I have as a Native American. I have lost 100 pounds on his
Low Glycemic Load Diet and my blood sugar readings are normal!
I highly recommend that all Native Americans read his book.”-M.S.S.,
Phoenix, Az.
“I have had much difficulty with my weight and super-sluggish
metabolism my entire life. Dr. Rigden has helped me maintain
an 80-pound weight loss for almost eight years. He has a superior
grasp of carbohydrate sensitivity issues.”-A.M., Tempe,
Az.
“Thanks to Dr. Rigden's tailored program, I have lost
58 pounds. When I learned I had food allergies, my initial
thought was, "Oh no, what am I going to eat…?"
It has taken me 20 years to 'learn how to lose weight' for
my body. With Dr. Rigden's program I was on a balanced menu
and weight loss plan and finding other food choices to give
me energy, nutrients, and the ability to lose weight with
ease and confidence. I tell family and friends this program
is my miracle."-L.B., Scottsdale, Az.
Lose that weight now, and finally
learn to keep it off! |

Workshop: The First Person Narrative
Saturday, January 16, 2 pm: Join
Sedona and Los Angeles author and poet, Dan
Fante, as he explores the effective use of the first
person narrative. First person can, if used correctly, give
the reader a sense of immediacy, a one-on-one experience that
can’t be matched by any other voice. First person presents
ideas powerfully, drawing in some readers, and challenging
others. Dan will discuss how to make this powerful voice your
effective tool.
He will also address the transition necessary to go from novelist
to poet.
Ben Myers of 3 am Magazine says: “Dan Fante knows a
thing or two about surviving America. If you like your prose
vodka-soaked, soulful and bleeding on the page, then Fante
is your man.” The New York Times wrote: "Dan Fante
is an authentic literary outlaw." The Face says: "Fante
is a brilliantly economical stylist . . . sad, bitter, yet
somehow infused with hope." Dan’s father was legendary
screenwriter and novelist, John Fante.
Dan Fante is published in thirteen countries and eleven languages.
His latest book is 86'D. His
books have included, CHUMP CHANGE
, SPITTING OFF TALL BUILDINGS,
A GIN PISSING RAW MEAT DUAL CARBURETOR
V8 SON OF A BITCH FROM LOS ANGELES, CORKSUCKER
and DON GIOVANNI. His latest
book of poetry is KISSED BY A FAT WAITRESS.

US FIRST SO YOU CAN BE PREPARED WITH WHAT DAN NEEDS
Friday, January 22, 7 pm: As we
approach 2012, more and more people are building Earth-friendly
community and learning how to Live by the Moon, as we did in
ancient Matriarchies when our Goddess religions were born. This
topic is vital now, even urgent, amid today's crisis in caring
for the lunar, feminine element of water. In everything from
crop circles to powerful planet alignments, the signs multiply
now that the Moon is calling. In the winter of 2009 - 2010,
three consecutive Super Moons tell us it is time to Be Aware.
Dan Furst, author of DANCE
OF THE MOON, will discuss these and other astrological,
goddess, and 2012 related topics. Dan has worked as an actor,
singer, writer and ceremonial artist in his native New York,
Hawaii, Kyoto Japan, India, Indonesia and most recently in Egypt.
His much-awaited book DANCE OF THE MOON:
CELEBRATING THE SACRED CYLES OF THE EARTH has been published
this year by Llewellyn Worldwide.
DANCE OF THE MOON allows us to
travel back to an era when the moon was our only calendar, and
explore all the timekeeping systems that have been held sacred
ever since by peoples all over the world. From the Egyptian
feast of Thoth to the Celtic fire festivals, from the Chinese
lunisolar year to the lunar-based calendar of the Muslim world,
DANCE OF THE MOON will take you on a cross-cultural tour of
traditions, pagan rituals, and practices throughout history
that honor life's cycles. Just as the rhythms of the moon and
the earth resonated long ago for our ancestors, these life-affirming
cycles persist today in the rituals and festivals of the Hindus,
Buddhists, Jews, Taoists, Christians, and the indigenous peoples
of Africa and the Americas. Reconnect with nature and dance
along with life's sacred rhythms.
Dan has been a professional astrologer for over thirty years.
He has written his immensely popular Universal Festival Calendar
since 1998 on his Hermes 3
website – which Body and Soul called “a wonderful
site, full of historical and mythological information.”
He’s an internationally-respected authority on rituals
and spiritual practices around the world. He lives now in Urubamba,
in the Sacred Valley near Cusco, Peru.

Writing Workshop:
Ghosts of the Past/Bringing History to Life: Character, Plot
and Setting in the Historical Novel
Saturday, January 30, 2 pm: Margaret
Erhart is a river and hiking guide in Grand Canyon and
on the San Juan River and a writing instructor and the author
of five novels. Margaret, the quintessential, Southwestern historical
writer, author of BUTTERFLIES OF THE GRAND
CANYON, will share with us the secrets of bringing history
to life, specifically in the critical areas of character, plot
and setting.
BUTTERFLIES OF THE GRAND CANYON is set against the backdrop
of the brooding and sensual canyon, as a young woman's heart
awakens and a decades-old mystery is solved. When Jane Merkle
arrives in Flagstaff with her much older husband on a summer
day in 1951, she hasn't any idea that her life is about to change
forever. But over a summer spent with her sister-in-law, in
a village perched on the rim of the Grand Canyon, Jane discovers
her latent ability with a butterfly net and her attraction to
a handsome young ranger. Meanwhile, an unidentified skeleton
is found on the premises of one of the village's most cantankerous
citizens. With the help-and hindrance-of a colorful cast of
historical characters, including an eccentric botanist who moonlights
as an amateur sleuth, the murder mystery that has haunted the
town for years is solved.
Alan Weisman, author of The World Without Us, writes: "In
this deceptively gentle, wise novel, Margaret Erhart, who's
been compared to Faulkner and Austen, somehow channels Ngaio
Marsh and Vladimir Nabokov as well. With collecting net and
heart in hand, she and her characters snare some beautiful mysteries."
And author Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the bestselling EAT,
PRAY, LOVE, says, “I found many delights on these pages.” |
