Personal Growth Talk:
Learning to Love Yourself — Be Your Own Valentine
Saturday, February 25, 2 pm:
Ah Valentine’s Day, the venerable day of love, the day we shower
that special someone with flowers, gifts and cards that express the
breadth of our feelings and the depth of our hearts. But how often
do you take the time to love yourself? Do you nurture yourself, treat
yourself to something special, express gratitude to yourself, or tell
yourself that you’re doing a great job. Rather than express
compassion or kindness toward ourselves, many of us have a constant
nagging voice inside, that Shaeri Richards,
author of DANCING WITH YOUR DRAGON: THE ART
OF LOVING YOUR UNLOVABLE SELF, calls the “Inner Judge.”
This inner voice carries on a running commentary of criticism about
the way we look, the way we behave, our intelligence, our talent,
and anything else it can find to beat us up with. Often this process
is going without our conscious awareness, and we end up feeling bad
about ourselves without even knowing why.
In DANCING WITH YOUR DRAGON: THE ART OF LOVING
YOUR UNLOVABLE SELF, Shaeri shares a spiritual practice designed
to help people “wake up” from the spell cast by this critical
inner voice. In her experimental workshop, she will guide participants
through a process to open the heart to a deep love of self, while
diffusing the power of this “Judge.”
Shaeri Richards is known locally as an improvisational theatre artist
and teacher, and for her 9-year stint as the drummer for Sedona’s
Sammy Davis Band. She is the author of the children’s audio
book, “Maressa & Merlone: A Musical Fairy Tale” and
the writer/director of an award-winning short film, “The Mother
Tree.” Her background also includes 30 years in radio and television
where she worked as a journalist, DJ, and talk show host. She has
been a student of spirituality and metaphysics since the early ‘70s
and is a practicing astrologer.
Learn to love yourself by this Valentine's Day. DANCING
WITH YOUR DRAGON: THE ART OF LOVING YOUR UNLOVABLE SELF will
be on sale for 20% off the cover price on the day of Shaeri’s
presentation.

Writing Workshop: The
criminally complex relationship of Editor and Writer — an insider’s
look at the editing process
Saturday, February 26, 2 pm: Join authors
Eric Beetner and Deborah
J. Ledford as they discuss the working relationship between
a writer and the editor. They ought to know firsthand since Deborah
has edited both of Eric's books (co-written with JB Kohl), ONE
TOO MANY BLOWS TO THE HEAD and the brand new BORROWED
TROUBLE. Deborah also writes her own series of thrillers that
began with STACCATO and now continues
with SNARE.
They will discuss the crucial role of editor, how a writer can push
back and how the editorial process elevates a manuscript. Through
their unique working relationship you can finally get a glimpse behind
the curtain at the real nuts and bolts of novel writing from the first
unruly draft through the final polish. They will share some of the
choices they made with Eric’s books and why. This is something
every writer should know before having a manuscript accepted for publication.
Eric Beetner is an award-winning short
story writer and screenwriter. Nick Quantrill, author of Broken Dreams,
wrote of BORROWED TROUBLE: “…a
relentlessly tough and lean novel, packed full with memorable characters.
They don’t write them like this anymore. Jump onboard now."
New Mexico’s Taos Pueblo Indian reservation is the setting for
Deborah J Ledford’s latest suspense
novel SNARE. A three-time nominee for
the Pushcart Prize, her award-winning short stories appear in numerous
print publications as well as mystery and literary anthologies. In
SNARE, Native American pop singer/songwriter Katina Salvo embarks
on her first live concert appearance. There’s one problem: someone
wants to kill her. |
